Computer Architecture Lab

The computer architecture laboratory develops students with the ability of identifying the modern computer system architecture and to exercise these principles to computer designs. The lab also provides practice using three primary building blocks of general-purpose computing systems: processors, memories, and networks. The lab incorporates a number of experiments with one experiment per session is performed and 6 experiments in total.

Experiments :

  • Building the ALU circuits in Verilog behavioral modeling.
  • Building the register file and control unit of the MIPS processor.
  • Building the single cycle MIPS processor (2 lab sessions)
  • Partitioning the MIPS processor into five pipeline stages (2 lab sessions).
  • Finding the hazard conditions in the MIPS pipelined processor (2 lab sessions).
  • Connecting the forwarding and hazard detection unit to the pipelined processor (2 lab sessions).
